
Salukis host Golden Eagles for home opener

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (1-1) hosts the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (2-0) on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. for its home opener inside Banterra Center.

Parking Note
Those attending Saturday's game are asked to park in Lot 56 (the Physical Plant parking lot). Fans with a men's basketball parking pass will be allowed to park in their normal spots. A shuttle to transport fans from Lot 56 to the Banterra Center will be provided.
Salukis vs. Tennessee Tech
• Tennessee Tech leads the all-time series, 13-10.
• The two teams last played each other on Dec. 12, 2009- a 59-56 win for Tennessee Tech.
• Southern's last win in the series came on Dec. 21, 2008- a 74-67 victory in Carbondale.
• SIU holds a 7-4 record at home vs. the Golden Eagles. Tennessee Tech was picked to finish third in the OVC's Preseason Poll.
Last time the two faced: 12/12/09
• The Salukis trailed 31-22 at the half after shooting just 26.9% from the field.
• Southern cut a 13-point second-half deficit down to one on a runner in the lane by Christine Presswood with one second to go but TTU sank a pair of free throws to win 59-56.
• Presswood finished with 22 points and seven boards in the loss.
SIU vs. the Ohio Valley Conference
• The Salukis went 3-1 last season against Ohio Valley Conference opponents and have won four-straight over OVC programs which includes this season's win over SIUE.
• In 186 lifetime meetings against OVC schools, the Salukis sport a .720 winning percentage (134-52).
Stein vs. the OVC
• Cindy Stein is 28-12 all-time against OVC schools during her 21 seasons as a head coach.
• Stein sports a .500 or better career record against six OVC schools but has never faced Tennessee Tech.
SIU in Home Openers
• Southern has won five-straight home openers under head coach Cindy Stein and are 22-22 in home openers dating back to the 1975-76 season.
• The Salukis are 5-1 under Stein in home openers including last season's 60-40 win over SEMO.
250 assists/100 steals
• Brittney Patrick dished out five assists in the season-opening win over SIUE- which marked the 23rd time in her career that she has tallied 5-plus assists in a game.
• Her 265 career assists, meanwhile, are four shy of cracking the top-15 for a career in program history.
• Patrick is also four steals shy of becoming the 30th player in school history to reach the century mark in career steals and would be just the 16th player with 250-plus assists and 100 steals.
800 on the nose
• Makenzie Silvey scored 17 points at IUPUI and now has 800 for her career. She's the 35th player in program history to reach 800 career points.
• Silvey currently ranks second in the MVC, and 25th in the nation, in scoring average at 22.5 points per game.
Snagging Boards
• Abby Brockmeyer led the Salukis with six rebounds at IUPUI.
• She now has 469 career rebounds and is 31 boards shy of becoming the 25th player in program history to reach the 500-career rebounds plateau.
Moving on up
• Nicole Martin scored 12 points at IUPUI to pass Ann Kattreh (1984-87) for 25th on SIU's all-time scoring list.Martin has 1,064 career points.
• She needs 30 points to pass Kelly Firth (1990-93) for 24th and 33 points to surpass Jasmine Gibson (2006-09) for 23rd place.
• Martin also moved into 19th on SIU's all-time rebounding list with her four boards at IUPUI. She is 17 boards shy of 18th place.
First time for everything
• Nicole Martin dished out a career-high and team-best four assists at IUPUI.
• It marked the first time in her four-year career that she has led the Salukis in assists.
Bench Production
• Southern's reserves scored 31 of the Salukis' 78 points at IUPUI on Tuesday, led by nine off the bench from Kristen Nelson.
• SIU's 31 bench points were its most since Dec. 19, 2017 when the Saluki reserves scored 31 points off the bench against Albany in Puerto Rico, led by 20 from Nicole Martin.
Most points to start a season
• Southern scored 103 points in the win over SIUE and followed with 78 points at IUPUI.
• SIU's 181 points to open the season are tied with the 1980-81 team for the most in the first two games of a season in program history.
• Southern's 90.5 points per game average is the 10th-best nationally, and is tops in the MVC.
50% shooting in back-to-back games
• The Salukis shot 56.3% from the field in the win over SIUE, and followed by shooting 50.0% at IUPUI on Tuesday.
• It marks the first time since Jan. 4 and Jan. 6, 2007 that the Salukis have shot 50% or better in back-to-back games. Current Saluki assistant coach Jody Adams-Birch was also an assistant coach for that team.
• Southern's 53.2% field goal percentage is currently the 10th-best in the nation and tops in the Missouri Valley Conference.
• Last time shot 50% in three-straight games: 1985 (2/7, 2/9, 2/14/85).
Back-to-back 80% shooting from Free Throw Line
• The Salukis made 87% (20-for-23) of their free throws in the win over SIUE, and sank 80% (12-of-15) of their freebies at IUPUI on Tuesday.
• It was the best Southern has shot from the charity stripe in back-to-back games (mini. 15 attempts) since 2007. (12/17/07, 12/21/07)
