
Salukis return home to host Billikens on Wednesday

SIU and St. Louis will meet for the second-straight season on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (3-2) returns to Banterra Center on Wednesday, Nov. 27 to host the St. Louis Billikens (5-1) at 2 p.m. The Salukis and the Billikens will meet for a second-straight season in a regional rivalry that traces back to 1970. The game can be locally heard on Magic 95.1 FM and can be streamed on ESPN3.
All-Time vs. St. Louis
• Wednesday's contest will mark the 22nd all-time meeting between the Salukis and the Billikens.
• The Salukis lead the all-time series, 12-9. Series dates back to 1970.
• Southern is 6-2 all-time vs. St. Louis in Carbondale with its last win on it's home court against the Billikens coming on Nov. 14, 2008. Southern won 85-77 behind five Salukis in double figures, led by 28 points from Katrina Swingler.
• The Billikens have won five of the last six meetings between the two schools, including the most recent matchup- a 62-58 win at St. Louis last season.
All-time vs. the Atlantic 10
• The Salukis are 12-9 all-time vs. Atlantic 10 foes, as the only A-10 program that Southern has faced is St. Louis.
Coach Stein vs. the A-10
• Head coach Cindy Stein is 9-1 lifetime against Atlantic 10 teams with a 6-1 all-time record vs. St. Louis. All nine wins came while at Mizzou.
• Stein also boasts a 2-0 record against Duquesne and a win over Davidson.
Last time they met
• Southern fell behind early last season against SLU, as the Salukis trailed 14-3 after the game's first five minutes.
• SIU got to within two, 51-49 on a three by Kristen Nelson with 6:30 to play and again with :17 to play, but couldn't come all the way back.
• Nicole Martin scored 21 points and grabbed five boards, while Makenzie Silvey (13) and Nelson (12) joined Martin in double figures.
Getting to the basket
• Through five games, SIU leads the Valley, and ranks 12th nationally in field goal percentage (48.9%).
• SIU shot 55% from the field in its win at Eastern Michigan- which marked the third time already this season that Southern has shot 50% or better from the floor. SIU's three games shooting 50% or higher is as many as it had during the entire 2018-19 season.
• Southern is 14-6 under seventh-year head coach Cindy Stein when making at least half of its shot attempts.
• Since 1988, SIU holds an .811% (86-20) winning percentage when shooting 50% or better.
• The Salukis didn't lose a game and won 18-straight games when shooting 50% or better from 1993 through the 1997 seasons.
Upping its average
• Southern scored 85 points in its win over Eastern Michigan, and it marked the fourth time in five games that SIU has scored 75 or more points in a game.
• The Salukis currently rank second in the Valley, and 27th in the nation, with an 81.6 points per game average.
• Southern is doing so by ranking in the top-20 nationally of both field goal and three-point field goal percentage. SIU ranks 19th nationally in 3-point FG percentage at 40.2-percent.
Mak attack
• Makenzie Silvey scored 22 points in SIU's win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday on an efficient 71.4-percent (10-of-14) shooting Saturday- which marked the second-straight game in which she has reached the 20-point plateau.
• Silvey is just the 30th player in program history to record back-to-back 20-point efforts and the first to do so since Nicole Martin in 2018.
• The Glen Carbon, Ill. native is averaging 21.6 points per game- which leads the Valley and ranks 16th nationally.
• Silvey has reached double figures in scoring in 15-straight games dating back to last season.
• She also became the 34th Saluki to score 850-plus points in a career and is 37 points shy of 900 for her career.
Martin leads the way
• Nicole Martin scored a season-high 23 points in SIU's win at Eastern Michigan.
• It marked the ninth time in her distinguished career that she has scored 20-plus points in a game- which is tied for the 18th-most 20-point games in school history.
• Martin's 1,112 career points are the 23rd-most in school history. She needs 23 points to crack the top-20 in program history.

Points per 100 possessions
• Southern is averaging 110.6 points per 100 possessions- the best average in the Valley and 22nd-best in the nation.
• SIU is doing so thanks to a .95 points per play average- the best average in the MVC and 19th-best in the nation.
Putting teams to bed
• The Salukis beat the Eastern Michigan Eagles by 31 despite trailing by two at the end of the first quarter.
• It marked the second time in the last five games SIU has defeated its opponent by 30 points or better. Thats as many 30-point plus wins as the previous four seasons combined.
One shy of 14th
• Brittney Patrick has 278 career assists- which is the 15th-most in a career in program history. She is one assist shy of passing Erica Smith for 14th place.
• Patrick is also one steal shy of becoming the 30th player in school history to reach the century mark in career steals and would be just the 16th player with 250-plus assists and 100 steals.
Most points in a second quarter
• SIU's 28 second quarter points in its win over Eastern Michigan were the most scored in a second quarter by the Salukis since the NCAA switched to quarters prior to the 2015-16 season.
• The school record for points in any quarter is 38- set in the third quarter of SIU's 102-63 win over Morehead State on Dec. 12, 2015.
First time in a long while
• The Salukis win over the EMU Eagles was their first in Michigan since 1978 in what was their first game in the Great Lake State since 2010.
Time for everyone
• 12 of the 14 Salukis on the roster saw game action at Eastern Michigan with 11 of 12 scoring at least one basket.
• Caitlin Link, Lauren Hartman and Rachel Pudlowski all knocked down threes off the bench, while Frankie Kokkines scored the first basket of her collegiate career.
