He becomes SIU's first All-American since MyCole Pruitt in 2014.
Southern Illinois senior safety Jeremy Chinn was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday. The team, presented by Regions Bank, was selected by a panel of 11 members of the media who cover the Football Championship Subdivision.
Chinn is the first Saluki player to earn All-America status since tight end MyCole Pruitt was a consensus All-American in 2014. He finished his storied SIU career with 243 tackles, 13 interceptions, 31 passes defended and six forced fumbles. Chinn finished 17th in the voting for the 2019 Buck Buchanan award that goes to the nation's top defensive player. He was an All-Conference selection his sophomore through senior years.
Next up for Chinn is the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. Practices begin Jan. 22 with the nationally televised game on Jan. 25.
