Women’s Golf finishes 11th at Spring Break Shootout

The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished eleventh at the Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Florida. Southern Illinois shot a final round of 301 to finish with a total of 903 (+51) and take 11th place ahead of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (+57) by 6-strokes. Tournament co-hosts Western Kentucky University (+5) and Florida Gulf Coast University (+5) tied for the tournament title.
The Salukis carded a 306 in the opening round at Lake Jovita Country Club, but bounced back in the second round with a 296 to finish day one tied for 11th with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Sophomore Moyea Russell carded the lowest score in the opening round (74) for the Salukis, but had to withdraw from the tournament due to an ankle injury.
Sophomore Emilyee McGiles (+9) led the Salukis with a three-round total of 222 to finish tied for 30th. Graduate Jackie Biggs carded 72 in the final round to finish tied for 35th. Junior Erica Kerr (+15) was consistent throughout the tournament, shooting 76 each round to finish tied for 51st. Junior Lili Klekner-Alt (+17) carded 80 in the final round to finish tied for 57th overall. Senior Sun Jung finished with a tournament total of 244 (+31) to tie for 83rd.
"The girls played well," SIU head coach Danielle Kaufman said. "We struggled in the first round, but made adjustments to finish strong."
The Salukis return to Carbondale, Illinois to host the Saluki Invitational on Sunday, March 24 and Monday, March 25 at Hickory Ridge Golf Course.
