UNI's Taylor Hagen spun by her defender and laid it in with :17 to play to wrestle the lead back and the Panthers added to it with a pair of free throws following an Abby Brockmeyer miss. SIU had two looks at a game-tying three, but Silvey's heavily-contested three hit the backboard and Patrick's three-pointer to tie at the buzzer clanged off the front iron.
"We talked about how we had to have a three," sixth-year head coach Cindy Stein said of the game's final play. "I thought Makenzie had a good look at it and can make that shot. Kristen was actually open as we had a couple of options off that play and Brittney also had a good look at it. That's just the way the ball bounces sometimes."
Southern had four score in double figures led by Makenzie Silvey. The All-MVC honorable mention selection scored 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with six rebounds and two steals in 39 minutes. It marked the 10th-straight game in which Silvey has reached double figures in scoring.

I just think our few lapses in the game plan is what ended up costing us. Over-playing here and there, getting beat back door which we focused on leading up to the game. That's what killed us in the end since it was a three-point game- it comes down to the details and if you mess a few of those up, that usually costs you."
