Men's Golf in 5th Place at Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Salukis finished the first round of the FAU Spring Championship in fifth place at two above par. Weather conditions were rough today as the players battled some wind. With little trees to block the wind coming from the ocean, the players had to adjust to the conditions.
"I'm proud of the way the guys fought today. If we look at every round from this spring so far this has been the most complete round that we've played yet," said SIU head coach Justin Fetcho. "We have all five guys, plus our individual, at 75 or under. There's not a single team in the field who were able to do that."
Senior Peyton Wilhoit (E) and Freshman Matthis Besard (E) are both tied for 15th place and are even with par. Senior Luke Gannon (+1) and Junior Frankie Thomas (+1) are both tied for 21st place and are one over par. With a score of 73, Thomas has started his first tournament of the spring season extremely well. Senior Hunter York is tied for 33rd and is two over par. Freshman Vikar Jonasson is tied for 42nd as an individual.
"I think if we get a few more good rounds under our belts then we'll get that momentum that we need heading into April, which is conference championship month. I think this could be a huge turning point in our season," said Fetcho.
Round two will begin with tee times starting at 10 a.m. The first Saluki tees off at 10:50 a.m. with the rest of the team following. Live stats will be available via Golfstat.com.
