Men's Golf to play in FAU Spring Championship

Who: FAU, Bethune-Cookman, UCF, UConn, FGCU, Georgetown, George Mason, Hartford, Houston Baptist, Miami (Ohio), Murray State, Rhode Island, Southern Illinois and Xavier
BOCA RATON, Fla. – This weekend the Southern Illinois Men's Golf team is in Boca Raton, Florida for the Florida Atlantic Spring Championship for the first time. The team competing includes Peyton Wilhoit, Matthis Besard, Luke Gannon, Hunter York, and Frankie Thomas with Vikar Jonasson competing as an individual.
The 14-team field this weekend includes host FAU, Bethune-Cookman, UCF, UConn, FGCU, Georgetown, George Mason, Hartford, Houston Baptist, Miami (Ohio), Murray State, Rhode Island, Southern Illinois and Xavier.
The Salukis last played on March 11-12th in the USF Invitational where they placed fifth out of 15 teams for their best finish so far this spring. When asked about the team goal for this weekend SIU head coach summed it up in two words, "to win".
"Practices have gone well over the last week. We've been focusing a lot on iron play and controlling the ball flight., we're also working hard on our short irons. We just haven't been giving ourselves enough chances in the last few events so we're just working on sharpening that up," said SIU head coach Justin Fetcho.
The FAU Spring Championship will be held at the Osprey Point Golf Course on the Raven and Falcon courses. Since the courses opening in 2010, Osprey Point has received numerous awards and is one of the top public golf courses in Florida. Osprey Point has three nine-hole courses.
Round one will be Friday, March 29th with tee times starting at 10 a.m. Live stats will be available on Golfstat.com.
