Salukis wrap up competition at Bobcat Invitational

The Southern Illinois University track and field team wrapped up competition at the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Texas State, on Saturday, March 30. Southern competed in 11 events and tallied two runner-up finishes in addition to several personal-bests.
In the oval, Bri'Anna Branchset a huge PR in the 200m dash at 23.19 to finish second out of 87 runners. It's the fastest 200m time in the MVC and currently the sixth-fastest time in the NCAA West Region.
In the circle, A'veun Moore-Jones was the runner-up in the shot put with her toss of 49'-11.75" (15.23m). Moore-Jones has now finished first or second in the shot put at four of the last five meets she has competed at dating back to indoor season.
Sticking with the shot put, Adam Kessler took sixth in the event at the Texas Relays. Kessler threw 61'-8.25" (18.80m) on his fifth attempt. At the Bobcat Invitational, Ricky Hurley placed sixth in the shot with his mark of 56'-5.25" (17.20m).
Southern tallied several personal-bests on the track. Madison Meyer set a PR in the 100m hurdles for the second-straight meet, as she clocked a time of 14.26 to finish 11th. In the mid-distances, Brandon Schnitker ran a personal-best 1:55.95 in the 800m to finish 20th out of 61 runners.Â
Mitchell Bland took fifth in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 49'-1" (14.96m).
The Salukis are back in action at the Tennessee Relays beginning Thursday, April 11.Â
