O'Neal uncorked the fourth-best toss in school history to win the discus competition Saturday.
Shauniece O'Neal's win in the discus highlighted the final day of competition for the Salukis at the 52nd annual Tennessee Relays Saturday.
O'Neal won the discus with a mark of 176'-6" (50.76m). It was not only a 10-foot personal-best but it is the fourth-longest toss in school history. The Florissant, Mo. native's throw is the furthest by a Saluki since 2014. With her mark, the sophomore sensation moves up to 17th in the NCAA West Region in the event.
Over at the high jump, Willie Rodgers tied his personal-best with a clearance of 6'-8.75" (2.05m) to finish sixth. Rogers nearly made it 2-for-2 with personal-bests Saturday, as he missed a PR in the triple jump by less than three inches.
As is customary at the Tennessee Relays, the relay races took center stage on the final day of the three-day event. Southern tallied two top-3 finishes in the relays.
The Saluki men's sprint medley relay team of Kevin Turner, Canoy Tyree, Brandon Schnitker and Alonzo Taylor-Jones were the runner-ups in the event with a time of 3:30.99.
The women's 4x200 relay team of Alicia Reed, Tredaja Harris, Thurneisha Keys and McKenzie Krich finished third with a time of 1:42.39
The Salukis are back in action next Saturday at the Kentucky Invite, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
