Claire Miller named MVC Newcomer of the Week

Miller allowed just two earned runs on nine hits in 12 innings of work last week.
ST. LOUIS — Junior pitcher Claire Miller has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Miller earned the first MVC Newcomer of the Week honor of her career after she went 1-1 with a save and a 1.17 ERA in three appearances last week in the circle. In 12 innings of work, the junior transfer allowed just two earned runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts.
The Wayne City, Ill. native took the tough luck loss out of relief at Missouri State, as she threw two innings and didn't allow an earned run on two hits. She followed with her second complete game shutout of the season at Indiana State, as she allowed a season-low two hits and struck out six to guide SIU to a 5-0 win. In the series finale, Miller came on in relief of Brianna Jones and threw three innings in which she allowed two earned runs on fives hits to nail down her second save of the season.
Southern continues its 11-game road swing tomorrow with a mid-week game at SEMO (30-11). First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
