Branch named MVC Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Branch clocked the fastest 100- and 200-meter dash times in the MVC this past weekend.

ST. LOUIS -- Southern Illinois senior sprinter Bri'Anna Branch has been Missouri Valley Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first MVC weekly honor of Branch's career.

Branch clocked two top MVC times in consecutive days this past weekend. She opened with a season-best time in the 100m dash at the Texas Relays in which she ran 11.71 to finish fifth in her heat and 21st overall. The following day at the Bobcat Invitational, Branch set a huge PR in the 200m dash at 23.19 and was the top collegiate finisher in a field of 87 runners. She now leads the MVC in both the 100m and 200m dashes, and ranks sixth in the NCAA West Region in the 200m.

Branch and the rest of the Salukis will take this week off in preparation for the Tennessee Relays, hosted by the University of Tennessee, which begin on Thursday, April 11.
