Women's Golf in 18th place after Day One at NCAA Regional

The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished the first day of the Cle Elum Regional in 18th place. In their first NCAA Regional appearance since 2007, the No. 18 seed Salukis carded an opening round of 322 (+34). No. 1 Southern California leads the field at 7-under par, followed by No. 16 Northwestern at 4-under. Of the 18 teams, 13 are ranked in the top 50, including five in the top 20. Rounds two and three will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the top six teams and three individuals advancing to the NCAA Championship.

Jackie Biggs leads the Salukis with a 5-over par 77 that featured a birdie on hole 16. Biggs is currently tied for 65th overall. Erica Kerr (+6) is tied for 74th overall with a day one total of 78. Lili Klekner-Alt (+11) is in control of 92nd. Emilyee McGiles (+12) is tied for 93rd, one-stroke behind her teammate. Moyea Russell shot 86 in the opening round and is tied for 95th.

The Salukis are scheduled to tee off on Tuesday at 12:20 p.m. (CST) at Tumble Creek Club to begin the second round. Weather is forecast to be partly cloudy with a high of 74 ºF. Live scoring will be available at NCAA.com and Golfstat.com.

Golf Channel will provide expanded coverage of the final day of the regional championships on Wednesday, May 8. Six teams and three individuals will advance to play in the NCAA Championship at The Blessings Golf Club hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas, from May 17-22.
