06/05/2019 | 3:43:00 | General
Alex Hansen is an SIU alum who earned his bachelor's degree in marketing in 2018. He joined the development staff shortly thereafter as a graduate assistant and is pursing a master's degree in media management. Hansen, a second-generation Saluki, serves as the game day ticket manager for events such as volleyball, baseball and softball.
What is your connection to SIU?
I'm a second generation Saluki. My father graduated from SIU in 1979 and the memories he shared with me about his time here sold me on the university. I began working on my bachelors degree in 2015 and graduated in 2018 with a BS in marketing. I am currently working on my
Masters in Media Management and Strategic Communication to pursue a job in the sports media industry.
Why is the relationship between the ticket and development offices important to SIU's success?
The tie between ticketing and development is crucial in regards to providing an education to our student-athletes. With donations being tied to our season tickets, it puts me in the unique position to directly impact both ends by providing excellent customer service.
Why do you give to SIU Athletics/SASF? Why should others give?
I give because of what SIU has given me as a graduate assistant. If it wasn't for our Athletics department I would not be pursuing my masters degree at this time. I feel it's necessary to pass the good will forward to our student-athletes because without them we would not have this department.
Tell us about some of the best SIU memories that you have?
Some of my fondest memories come from visiting SIU and my first year living on campus. Walking onto campus for the first time and seeing the crowds of students traveling to and from classes as well as all of the beautiful scenery, especially Campus Lake is what I remember most. Playing Wichita State during our 2015 season also stands out to me due to it being the first collegiate sport I had ever attended.
