
Missouri Valley Conference announces 2018-19 Academic Awards

123 Saluki student-athletes were named to the MVC Honor Roll.
ST. LOUIS – One hundred six student-athletes highlight nearly 1,900 of those to earn selection to the 2018-19 Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll, as announced by the league office. Those 106 student-athletes earned the league's highest academic achievement by capturing the Missouri Valley Conference President's Council Academic Excellence Award.
The President's Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average (through Spring 2019 semester), participation in athletics a minimum of two years, and the student-athlete must be within 18 hours of graduation. Also, 731 student-athletes received the league's Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average, and participation in athletics a minimum of two years. SIU's Taylor Aldridge (women's golf), Maggie Burke (swimming and diving), Caitlyn Claussen (women's basketball), Luca Palasti (track and field), Samantha Parsons (S&D), Bailee Pulley (softball), Jordan Ries (S&D), Jacqueline Rose (S&D) and Amber Ruiz-Bueno (track and field) were honored for their efforts with the President's Academic Award. It marked the fourth-straight year in which at least eight Salukis have taken home the President's Academic Award.
Along with the nine recipients of the President's Academic Award, 72 Saluki student-athletes were named Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and a total of 123 SIU student-athletes were honored on the MVC Honor Roll.
