The Southern Illinois University volleyball team welcomes UT Martin to Davies Gym to close out its eight-match homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
All-time vs. UT Martin
- Southern is 13-3 all-time vs. UT Martin and have won four-straight over the Skyhawks.Â
- The Salukis defeated the Skyhawks at the Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Ky. in five sets a year ago.Â
- Southern is a perfect 10-0 all-time against UT Martin on its home floor in a streak that dates back to 1975. The Salukis have done so, historically, in convincing fashion, as they dropped just three sets to UT Martin (27-3) during that stretch.Â
- SIU's last loss in the series came in 2011, a 3-2 loss in Starksville, Miss.
- This is the first time that SIU and UT Martin have met in Carbondale since 2015.Â
Scouting the Skyhawks
- UT Martin comes into Tuesday's match with a 3-7 record and have lost four-straight.
- The Skyhawks and the Salukis have played two common opponents- Memphis and St. Louis. UT Martin lost in four sets to the Tigers and were swept by the Billikens.
- Senior middle blocker Gintare Mackeviciute was named to the All-Tournament team for the second time this season, this time at the Billiken Invitational, where she put down 21 kills and hit .208.
Straw that stirs the drink
- Rachel Maguire has done it all for the Salukis this season.Â
- The Bloomington, Ill. native notched her third-straight triple-double, as she tallied 13 kills, 19 assists, 10 digs and a pair of aces in the win over Alabama State.
- In doing so, she tied Meg Viggars (2015) for the longest stretch of triple-doubles in program history.Â
- Through 10 matches, the junior setter/hitter has five triple-doubles- one off of Viggars school record of six triple-doubles, set in 2015.Â
Leading the nation
- Rachel Maguire currently leads the nation in triple-doubles with five.
- Alayna Martin is tied for seventh in the nation in triple-doubles with one.
- SIU is the only program in the nation currently with two players with at least one triple-double.
- Martin and Maguire became just the second Saluki tandem, and the first since Nov. 13, 1981, to record triple-doubles in the same match against IUPUI.
Getting their moneys worth
- Southern has played in four-straight five-set matches, including a comeback win over Alabama State on Saturday.Â
- It ties the school record for the longest streak of five-set matches, which was set in 1988.Â
- The most five-set matches in one season is 11, set during the 1982 season. SIU went 8-3 in those matches with its eight five-set wins also a single-season program record.
- The Salukis are 126-110 (.533) all-time in five set matches since 1976.
Keeping it off the floor
- Southern ranks third nationally in total digs (718).
- SIU's 110 digs in its five-set match against IUPUI are the third-most in a match nationally this season.
- Southern's 110 digs are its most in a match since Nov. 20, 2009- a five-set loss to Evansville.
Strong Debut
- Abi Fitzpatrick made her collegiate debut in the win over Alabama State and dug out 17 balls and added her first career ace.
Just a freshman
- Alex Washington had 12 kills and a career-high 22 digs in SIU's five-set win over SEMO last Tuesday.
- It marked her fourth kill-dig double-double of the season.
- Her four kill-dig double-doubles are tied for the sixth-most in a freshman campaign in Saluki history. She's tied with Jene Pulliam (2003) and Jodi Miller (1990).Â
- Washington has also put down 10-plus kills in seven matches already this season, which is tied with Jene Pulliam for the 14th-most in a freshman season in program history.Â
