CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois women's golf team looks to continue building off last year's success as the team begins the 2019-2020 season at Illinois State on September 8, 2019. The Redbird Invitational is the first of ten tournaments the Salukis are scheduled to play this season before the MVC Conference Championship in April, 2020.
SIU experienced much success last season: winning their first MVC Conference Championship since 2007 and advancing to the NCAA Regionals in Cle Elum, Washington. Head coach Danielle Kaufman was also named the MVC Coach of the Year, the first Saluki women's golf coach in program history to win the award in their first year. Five members from last year's championship roster return for the 2019-2020 season: senior Erica Kerr, senior Lili Klekner-Alt, junior Emilyee McGiles, junior Moyea Russell, and junior Rosemarie Bundy.
Southern Illinois is set to compete in five tournaments this fall. The Salukis open the season at Illinois State for the Redbird Invitational (Sept. 8-9). SIU rounds out the remaining fall tournaments at the Spirit Hollow Invitational (Sept. 23-24), the Johnie Imes Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 2), and the Lady Red Wolves Classic (Oct. 14-15) before concluding 2019 in Evansville, Ind. at the Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate for the third-straight year.
Southern Illinois travels to Riverside, California to kick-off the 2020 spring schedule at the University of California Riverside for the Battle at the Rock (Fev. 10-11), followed by the Islander Classic (Feb. 24-25) in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Salukis then head south to Mexico for the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational (Mar. 19-21) before returning to Florida to compete in the Baby Steffens Invitational (Mar. 29-30).
The Salukis close out the 2019-2020 in Saint Charles, Missouri as they host the inaugural Diane Daugherty Invite (Apr. 6-7). SIU will look to defend their eight conference title and earn their ninth when they compete in the MVC Conference Championship (Apr. 19-21).
