Saluki Volleyball hosts SEMO Tuesday at Davies Gym

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University volleyball team hosts its border rival, the SEMO Redhawks on Tuesday, September 10 at 6 p.m. The Salukis have won six-straight over the Redhawks on their home floor in a streak that dates back to 2006.Â
All-time series vs. SEMO
• Southern holds a 24-12 all-time record over SEMO dating back to the 1975 season.Â
• The Salukis have won four of the last five and eight of the last 10 meetings over the Redhawks.Â
• The Salukis are 14-6 all-time at home against SEMO and have won six-straight against the Redhawks on their home floor.
• Southern's last loss to SEMO in Carbondale came on Sept. 14, 2004.Â
All-time vs. the Ohio Valley Conference
• Southern is 85-36 (.702) all-time versus current OVC schools.Â
• The Salukis have won 20 of their last 25 matches against Ohio Valley schools dating back to 2006.
Scouting the Redhawks
• The Redhawks have won three-straight matches and claimed the team title at their home invitational this past weekend.Â
• SEMO posted three-straight sweeps with straight-set wins over Jackson State, Western Illinois and Evansville.Â
• The Redhawks were picked to finish sixth in the annual OVC preseason poll.
• Outside hitter Annie Wehrheim was named to the 2019 Preseason All-OVC team after she earned All-OVC second team honors a year ago.
Familiar Face
• SEMO head coach Julie Yankus was an assistant coach at SIU under Brenda Winkeler for five seasons from 2005-10.Â
• Since taking over as the head coach of the Redhawks, Yankus has a 2-5 record against her former school, which includes last season's 3-0 win over the Salukis.
Maguire and Sheridan named to the Saluki Bash All-Tourney Team
• Rachel Maguire and Savannah Sheridan were each named to the All-Tournament Team after their performances at the Saluki Bash.Â
• Maguire tallied her second career triple-double, as she finished with 12 kills, 17 assists, 11 digs and two aces in the win over Southeastern Louisiana, and in doing so, became just the fourth Saluki to record multiple triple-doubles.Â
• Sheridan, meanwhile, hit. 383 on the weekend, including .619 with 13 kills on 21 swings in the win over Alabama A&M.Â
• Sheridan's .619 hitting percentage is the third-best in a match in the Missouri Valley Conference this season.
More on Maguire
• Maguire's triple-double in the win over Southeastern Louisiana was the 24th in program history.
• She became just the fourth Saluki to record multiple triple-doubles in both a season and a career.Â
• Maguire's two triple-doubles rank second nationally- only North Dakota State's Kalli Hegerie (4) has more.
• The school record for triple-doubles in a season is 6, set by Meg Viggars during the 2015 season.
Serving Up Aces
• The Salukis had five different players record at least one ace in the four-set win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday and served up a total of 13 aces.Â
• It was not only a season-high but it was the most aces for the Salukis in a match since Sept. 5, 2007 (3-0 win over WIU) when sets were played to 30 points.Â
Just a freshman
• Alex Washington set career-bests in both kills (16) and digs (16) to record her third-straight kill-dig double-double in the win over Alabama A&M on Friday.Â
• Her three kill-dig double-doubles are tied for the eighth-most in a freshman campaign in Saluki history.Â
• Washington has also put down 10-plus kills in four-straight matches, which is tied for the 19th-most in a freshman season in program history.Â
Making her mark
• Bailey Neuberger made her collegiate debut against SIUE Friday night and made her first collegiate start the following day against Southeastern Louisiana.
• Neuberger tallied seven kills, a match-high four aces and seven digs.Â
• Her four aces were the most by a Saluki since Keera Clarke served four aces against Jackson State on Sept. 14, 2018.
Double-Digit Digs
• Laura Rojas has dug out 10 or more balls in all six of SIU's matches this season.
• The senior libero dug out 10 balls and posted career-bests in assists (8) and aces (3), which included an ace on match point to seal the win over Southeastern Louisiana.
• She has nearly doubled last season's assist total through six matches, as she has 34 assists this season compared to 18 assists in 27 matches a year ago.
• Her three aces in the win over Southeastern Louisiana matched her 2018 total.
Utility Hitter
• Hannah Becker put down seven kills in all three of SIU's matches over the weekend and has finished with five or more kills in five of SIU's six matches this season.
• Prior to this season, Becker had only once tallied five or more kills in a match.
Stepping Up
• Kyra Hunter was thrust into action early on Saturday due to injuries and put down a season-best 12 kills in the win over Southeastern Louisiana.
• It marked her first time as a Saluki, and the 16th time in her career, that she has recorded 10-plus kills in a match.
Assist-Dig Double-Doubles
• Alayna Martin has four assist-dig double-doubles this season, including 25 assists and 13 digs in SIU's win over Southeastern Louisiana.
• Her 19 double-doubles are tied with Teri Noble for 15th on SIU's all-time list.
