
Salukis host No. 18 Missouri State on Friday

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team closes out its three-game homestand against No. 18 Missouri State on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. The game can be viewed on ESPN+ and can be heard locally on MAGIC 95.1 FM.

All-Time vs. Missouri State
• The Salukis and the Lady Bears meet for the 84th time in a series that dates back to the 1970-71 season.
• Southern trails the all-time series, 29-54.
• SIU's last win in the series came at the Banterra Center on Jan. 26, 2018, when the Salukis held the Lady Bears to 1-of-11 shooting in overtime to seal a 71-69 win.
• Southern's last five wins over the Lady Bears have come at home.
Salukis vs. Ranked Opponents
• This marks the first time this season, and 46th time since 1981 that the Salukis have taken on a team ranked in the Top-25.
• SIU is 7-38 all-time against foes ranked in the Top-25.
• Southern's last win over a ranked opponent came on a neutral floor- an 81-64 win over North Carolina State at the Stanford Classic on Dec. 19, 1991.
• This will be the 16th time that SIU has hosted a ranked opponent and the second-straight season the it has done so. Southern fell to No. 23 Drake, 71-64 on March 1, 2019.
• Southern is 4-11 all-time at home vs. ranked opponents.
• SIU's last home win vs. a ranked opponent came on Dec. 19, 1987- a 76-58 win over No. 11 Western Kentucky inside Davies Gym.
• This is the fifth time that the Salukis have tangled with a ranked foe in the Cindy Stein-era and the second time it has occurred in conference play.
• SIU spent 14-straight weeks ranked in the top-20 during the 1986-87 and 1987-88 seasons, rising as high as No. 13. A loss at Illinois on Dec. 9, 1988 pushed the Salukis out of the top-20.
1,000 points and counting
• Makenzie Silvey scored her 1,000th career point against Drake on Sunday.
• The junior guard is the 27th player in program history to reach the milestone, and the 10th to do so as a junior.
• It took the Glen Carbon, Ill. native 76 career games to accomplish the feat- the sixth-fastest to reach 1,000 career points in terms of games played in school history.
• Silvey made her 156th career three-pointer over the weekend. She's now two behind Karen Powell for sole possession of fifth on SIU's all-time list and needs six to pass Karrie Redeker for fourth.

Playing Tough Defense
• Southern's defensive effort was outstanding against Drake on Sunday.
• SIU forced 27 turnovers, which were the most for the Bulldogs in a game since March 13, 2015.
• The Salukis also finished with a season-best 16 steals- which are their most in a game since the 2009-10 season (1/2/10; vs. Evansville).

• Nicole Martin scored 19 points against the Drake Bulldogs to move up to 12th on SIU's all-time scoring list.
• Martin's 1,239 points are 33 points shy of cracking the top-10 in program history.

Getting to the line
• Nicole Martin has shot at least one free throw in 19-straight games- the longest streak of her career.
• Martin went 4-for-5 from the charity stripe against the Drake Bulldogs with her four makes pushing her past Nikki Gilmore for the fifth-most made free throws (269) in school history. She is 10 away from passing Amy Rakers (1988-91) for fourth.
• Martin has attempted 415 free throws in her career- two shy of passing Theia Hudson (1995-98) for fifth on SIU's all-time list.
Top-20 Rebounders
• Both Abby Brockmeyer and Nicole Martin have cracked the Top-20 in rebounds in school history.
• Brockmeyer ranks 20th with 571 boards while Martin sits at 12th with 644 rebounds.
About to crack the Top-10
• Brittney Patrick is just two assists shy of passing Dana Fitzpatrick (1986-89) for 10th on SIU's all-time list and four back of Anita Scott (1990-93) for ninth.
• Patrick's 63 total assists are the third-most in the conference and she ranks fourth in the Valley in assists per game (4.2).
• Patrick became just the 13th player in program history with 300 assists/100 steals in a career.
