Four Record Top-Five Finishes at First Day Of Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Southern Illinois University Saluki track and field program had four top-five finishers on the first day of the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University, on Friday evening.
The meet got underway with the women's weight throw, which saw senior thrower Alexis Roberson take second after tossing for 68'-6" (20.88 meters), finishing just under six feet away from Notre Dame's Rachel Tanczos, who's throw of 74'-5.75" (22.70 meters) ties the second-best mark in the NCAA this season. Other Salukis in the event included Emily Kern in 11th, Nikki Freeman in 17th, BriYanna Robinson in 20th and Diamond Richardson in 22nd.
The men's weight throw saw senior Ricky Hurley place fifth with a toss of 62'-10.74" (19.17 meters). Sophomore Peyton Taylor was the only other Saluki in the event and finished 13th after recording a personal-best toss of 56"-0.50" (17.08 meters).
In the high jump, Marissa Holmes was the Salukis top finisher on the women's side after tying for eighth with a mark of 5'-2.50" (1.59 meters). Newcomer Dawson Plab had the team's best mark on the men's side, as the junior took fourth after clearing 6'-10.75" (2.10 meters). Caleb Vogel placed ninth while Trevor Thompson finished 13th to close out the event.
Senior Madison Meyer took fourth in the women's long jump with a mark of 19'-3.25" (5.87 meters), while classmate Kira Williams came in 13th. On the men's side, Theo Phipps took 16th after jumping for 22'-1.50" (6.74 meters).
