NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Southern Illinois University track and field program wrapped up day two of the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University, on Saturday.
"I thought we had a good weekend," said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Rosalind Joseph. "Things are starting to click and people are starting to get in a rhythm going into championship time. The main goal now is fine tuning individual needs and taking care of our bodies."
The Salukis competed against some of the premier track and field programs across the country at the meet. Eight Salukis posted top-five finishes, showing us all that the size and stature of the school doesn't compare to the heart and dedication of the individuals who make up the program.
"It means a lot to me as a coach that we can go to any meet in the country and hold our own," said Joseph. "It says a lot about the talent on our roster, the preparation our coaches have put into our student-athletes and just the pride and work ethic to be great everywhere we go. I feel good when they feel good and I know they feel good about performing well at this meet."
Erin Diemer got the day started with a fourth-place finish in the women's pole vault. Her mark of 11'-10" is her third-highest of the season. Over in the circle, A'veun Moore-Jones threw for a lifetime-best 52" en route to placing fourth in the shot put. Kayleigh Conlon placed eighth in the same event after throwing for a season-best mark of 49"-3.50".
Willie Rodgers set a new personal-best in the triple jump after jumping for 50"-0.5", passing his previous PR by 1'-.25". The Senior has now set personal bests in back-to-back meets, having set a PR in the high jump at the Indiana Relays.
Tyjuana Eason placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.53, falling less than a hundredth of a second behind Purdue's Kerris Roberts.
