A'veun-Moore Jones, Ricky Hurley Earn Conference Honors

ST. LOUIS – Southern Illinois University Saluki track and field throwers Ricky Hurley and A'veun Moore-Jones have been named the male and female Missouri Valley Conference Field Athletes of the Week following their performances at the EIU Friday Night Special Meet on Feb. 21, the conference announced today.
Moore-Jones had an impressive showing in the shot put, as the Mount Vernon, Ill. native threw for a lifetime-best mark of 53' (16.15 meters) en route to winning the event. After throwing for a then personal-best mark of 52' at the Music City Challenge on, Feb. 14, Moore-Jones moved up to ninth on the SIU top-10 list for the event and will keep that spot after her most recent performance. She now stands 27th overall on the NCAA's performance list in addition to holding the top spot in the MVC.
Hurley took first in the weight throw after throwing for 64'-04" (19.61 meters), his best mark of the season. Hurley's mark moved himself up to 58th overall on the NCAA's performance list, in addition to moving him to the top spot on the MVC performance list for the event.
The Salukis are gearing up for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, which are slated to take place in Cedar Falls, Iowa Feb. 28-29.
