Cross Country Closes Out at Midwest Regional

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Southern Illinois cross country teams competed in the NCAA Midwest Regional Champion on Friday in Iowa City, Iowa. The Midwest Regional was held on the campus of the University of Iowa at the Ashton Cross Country Course.
The Saluki women kicked off the Regional at 11:00 am and finished in 22nd place with a total of 610 points. The men's 10K race followed where the SIU men placed 20th with 594 points.
Kayla Schiera was the top finisher for SIU in the women's 6K race; her time of 21:40.38 was good for 52nd place. Stephanie Anthonies was able to finish in the top-100 with a 98th place time of 22:16.73. Josie Brown (121st), Ansley Bailey (170th), Claire Ayers (177th), Rachel Anderson (190th), and Sydney Matusik (212th) rounded out the rest of the Saluki runner's.
The University of Minnesota took home the team title in the women's 6K with 45 total points. Iowa State's Cailie Logue was the top finisher in the race with a time of 20:45.08. MVC opponent Bradley finished 10th for top spot in the Valley, with 341 points.
In the men's 10K race, SIU's Noah McIntyre was the top finisher for the Salukis with a 79th place time of 32:12.05. Dawson Smith (87th/32:21.22) and Ethan Senti (90th/32:23.30) finished closely behind to crack the top-100. Uriah Guthrie (170th), Vince Van Eck (176th), and Travis Hart (183rd) closed out the rest of the men's team.
Oklahoma State was awarded the team title in the men's 10K for their 43 point total. Iowa State's Wesley Kiptoo took home the individual title with his time of 30:17.81. Drake's Adam Fogg was the top MVC finisher with his 4th place time of 30:24.45. Fogg's Drake team finished 7th overall in the team standings to be the top Valley team in the Regional.
