#25 Salukis host Evansville to begin MVC play
03/11/2021 | 8:56:00 | Baseball
CARBONDALE, Ill. - The No. 25 ranked SIU baseball team hosts Evansville in the first Missouri Valley Conference series of the year. Due to forecasted weather, Friday's game has been adjusted to a 12 p.m. first pitch (originally scheduled for 6 p.m.).Â
Changes to look for » The MVC is playing four-game series this year, rather than the traditional three-game series of the past several years. Teams will play a single game on Fridays and Sundays, with a doubleheader on Saturday. The doubleheader format is a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning game. However, if the first game of the doubleheader goes into nine or more innings, the second game of the doubleheader will automatically become a seven-inning game. Additionally, the NCAA passed guidance this year that teams can place a runner on second base to begin extra innings, based on mutual agreement. The MVC has adopted the policy for all league games. For nonconference games, the decision will be made by the head coaches prior to the game.
Broadcasting is back » Hall of Fame broadcast Mike Reis announced this week that SIU will provide a free audio broadcast of every possible game for the remainder of the season, starting this weekend. Links can always be found on SIU's baseball schedule page: SIUSalukis.com/baseball/schedule. The broadcasts will also be available for free on the TuneIn app by searching Southern Illinois Salukis Baseball. Audio is also available over the air at Itchy Jones Stadium only on 98.3-FM.Â
Attendance Policy » Due to COVID-19 health protocols, attendance at Itchy Jones Stadium will be limited to immediate family of student-athletes and a maximum of 50 SIU students. SIU students must have a student ID to be admitted. The Hill will be closed. Face coverings are required in the facility except when eating or drinking, and fans must observe social distancing outside of immediate family members. If health protocols change during the season, these Itchy Jones Stadium attendance policies will be reevaluated.
