CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University men's golf program is headed south to Lafayette, La., to partake in the 36^th annual Louisiana Classics, hosted by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The 54-hole tournament will take place on Mar. 15-16 at the par-72, 6,898-yard Oakbourne Country Club.

The tournament will begin Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m., before concluding on Tuesday with the final 18 holes starting at 7:30 a.m. Live results will be available via GolfStat with live coverage on ESPN+ beginning at 9:30 a.m. for Tuesday's final round.

The field of teams headed to Lafayette include three teams ranked in the GolfStat Top-50: No. 5-ranked Illinois, No. 38 North Texas and No. 49 Sam Houston. Seven players competing at the tournament also rank in the GolfStat Top-150.

The field of 14 teams joining the Salukis include Illinois State, Kansas City, ULM, McNeese, Michigan, Oral Roberts, Rice, Texas State and UTEP.

The Salukis will send a five-man lineup of Matthis Besard, Justin Wingerter, Tom Cleaton, Birgir Magnusson and Josh Mackin. The group will be competing for the first time since the Little Rock Invitational on Oct. 20, 2020.

Admission to the tournament is free with fans reminded to wear masks and practice social distancing.
