Ramblers top Salukis in Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team dropped to the Ramblers of Loyola-Chicago on Sunday morning at Loyola Soccer Park, 0-5. Sophomore keeper Maddy Alaluf garnered her sixth start of the season and accumulated three saves while defending the Saluki net.
The Ramblers started up in scoring mode with a goal from the left side to Megan Nemec from Amanda Cassidy to kick in back at the 11-minute mark. Within a minute, Nemec sees the back of the Saluki goal again from the edge to direct the ball to the right post. Before the half, senior midfielder Lindsey Hardiman took a shot from the diving save off Alaluf from Freya Glen to bring in three goals for Loyola.
In the final 45 minutes of the match, sophomore Dariana Mihalache was in front of the net for the Dawgs, recording two saves with her action this season. Loyola's Hardiman scored again with a long range shot from the top corner off of a pass from Nemec and the final goal of the match was from the Rambler's Amanda Cassidy at the 60-minute mark, from a loose ball at the center-right edge of the box.
Both Kathryn Creedon and Katy Quinn got the start in back for the Salukis, bringing in prominent blocks inside the Saluki box to reach the ball out for the offense.
In the attack, SIU saw shots by Creedon and junior Maya Warrior, while playing smart ball and holding off less fouls and offsides calls to the Ramblers.
The Salukis play in their final home game of the Spring 2020-21 season on Saturday, April 3 at Lew Hartzog Complex, hosting the Redbirds of Illinois State at 7pm.
