CARBONDALE, Ill. – Postseason honors continued to roll in for Southern Illinois soccer on Tuesday when the Missouri Valley Conference announced its Scholar-Athlete Team, which featured five SIU players.
For a second straight year, Olivia Anderson was named to the team. This is already Anderson's third postseason honor from the conference, as she was also named to the MVC All-Conference Third Team and All-Tournament Team.
Guliana Balistreri also made the cut. The sophomore out of San Diego can add the honor to a season resume that already includes an All-MVC Second Team nod. Balistreri set the program record this year for minutes played, playing all 1,713 minutes of the season.
Sharing that minutes played record with Balistreri is Dory Latenser, another one of Southern's Scholar-Athletes. A sophomore from Kansas City, Kansas, Latenser provided strong defense all season for the Salukis while also adding two goals and one assist.
Fellow defender Veronica Gonzalez also made the Scholar-Atheletes team. Gonzalez tallied 1,701 minutes played this season, a mark trailing only Balisteri and Latenser's record number.
Rounding out Scholar-Athlete Salukis is another sophomore, Aylie Haycock. The midfielder provided a reliable offensive spark for Southern this season, collecting three goals and two assists for eight total points.
Following their program-record 10 wins this season, SIU has now collected 11 postseason honors from the MVC: one First-Team All-MVC, two Second-Team All-MVC, one Third-Team All-MVC, one MVC All-Freshman, one MVC All-Tournament, and now five MVC Scholar-Athletes.
