TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Southern Illinois fell to the Sycamores of Indiana State by a lone goal in 85 minutes, 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
SIU led ahead defensively on the stat sheet, sophomore keeper Maddy Alaluf got her third start of her career, earning nine saves to ISU's six. The California-native currently ranks fifth in the Missouri Valley in saves percentage, .800, in the season. There were also prominent blocks in the box from defenders Kathryn Creedon and Emma Spotak, resisting Indiana State's sharp attacks.
On the offense, the trio consisting of forwards Kaitlin DuCharme and Madison Meiring with defender Creedon all accumulated shots and two shots-on-goal each. As the third game of the season, this brings Creedon's SOG percentage to .714 -- averaging 2.33 shots a game and ranking her eighth in the league.
After a back and forth match with the ball on foot, Indiana State's CeCe Wahlberg receives a pass from forward Sasha Thompson at the top corner of the box to edge a goal above Alaluf with five minutes left in the second half.
With a quick turnaround, the Salukis are back home for a Tuesday night game against Evansville at the Lew Hartzog Complex.
