Salukis in Third After First Day of Murray State Invitational

DICKSON, Tenn. – The Southern Illinois University men's golf program is in third place through the first two rounds of the Murray State Invitational at seven-under par. Belmont leads the 15-team field at 14-under par with one round remaining.
The Salukis closed out the first day with a total team score of 569 (289-280).
Individually, Tom Cleaton leads SIU after shooting rounds of 71 and 69 to start the tournament, finishing the first day at four-under par. The Rugby, England, native currently ranks fourth against a field of 91 golfers.
Junior Matthis Besard was the next closest Saluki in the individual standings at two-under par, placing the Belgium native in a tie for eighth at a score of 142 (71-71). Freshman Justin Wingerter carded rounds of 72 and 71 to finish one-under par and in a tie for 13th.
Josh Mackin closed out the first day with a second-round score of 69, finishing the day even-par and tied for 16th. Birgir Magnusson rounded out the Saluki team performers with his two-round score of 148, placing him four-over par.
Competing as individuals, Markus Wilhelmsen finished the day five-over par (78-71), tying him for 38th in the field. Sophomore Riley Klingelberg rounded out SIU participants, as the Murrieta, Calif., native finished the day in a tie for 60th (75-79).
Day two of the Murray State Invitational will get underway with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
