SPRINGFIELD, Mo – The Southern Illinois women's soccer team fell to Missouri State, 4-1, in Springfield, Mo. in Southern's season finale. Sophomore forward Kaitlin DuCharme scored the Salukis' lone goal of the match.
The Bears netted back-to-back goals in the 12 and 13-minute marks by juniors defender Isabel Burke and midfielder Jacqueline Baetz.
At the 19-minute mark, the Salukis' Emma Spotak drove a pass from the corner to the far post, where forward Kaitlin DuCharme beat Bears keeper Kaitlin Maxwell to cut SIU's deficit to one, 2-1 at the half.
The Bears added a pair of second half goals to end the scoring.
The Salukis saw strong header blocks and pushes outward by sophomore Katy Quinn and senior Kathryn Creedon in facing the Bears forwards. Protecting the net, sophomore goaltender Maddy Alaluf played in all 90-minutes and recorded four saves. The Newport Beach, California native finished her 2020-21 campaign with three shutouts and a .729 saves percentage in eight starts.
In attacking, DuCharme, Spotak, and freshman forward McKensey Bunch were all credited with shots on Missouri State's net in the midfield-heavy match. Sophomore midfielder Quinn Parks tabbed her first shot-on-goal of the season while DuCharme finished the season as the Salukis' leading shooter, tallying up 19 shots and nine shots-on-goal in 2021.
As the Salukis have missed the MVC tournament, this young team looks to learn, progress, and look forward to their third season as a program in August.
