
SIU Drops in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- The Southern Illinois Salukis fell in their fourth game of the 2021 season to Vanderbilt, 0-5, at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex in Nashville. 21 Salukis saw the field today, with freshman Ary Lougher taking over the net in the second half for SIU and recorded four saves.
The Commodores came scoring first, earning points on the board within eight minutes of play with a shot from midfielder Peyton Cutshall off of a deep pass by teammate Reagan Kelly. Vandy midfielder Madi Allen later took the opportunity from a corner kick to score up 2-0, while Vanderbilt's Kelly notched another goal with 26 minutes on the clock before halftime.
45 minutes left in the match, Reagan Kelly scores her second goal of the night within the box to lengthen the gap in the 52nd minute. Freshman Hillary Schroeder completed the final points of the evening, taking the opportunity from a header inside the box from a corner kick.
Sophomore forward McKinley Stiff went in for the offense, recording two shots and a shot-on-goal for SIU, while keeper Maddy Alaluf started in goal and notched a save in the first half before Lougher took over on defense.
The Salukis are back in Nashville on Sunday, September 5 where they will challenge the ASUN Lipscomb Bison (4-1) at 5:30pm.
