SIU takes 4th at Saluki Invitational

The Southern Illinois Women's Golf Team completed their home Saluki Invitational with a fourth place finish Tuesday after 54 holes at the prestigious Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo.Â
As a team, the Salukis shot 310-322-313-945 (+81) to finish 35 strokes ahead of fourth place Lindenwood.Â
Belmont won the team title with a team score of 896 (+32), finishing 18 strokes ahead of second place Missouri State.Â
The Bruins' Delia Gibbs and Chloe Tarkany received co-medalist honors, both finishing with a score of 221 (+5).Â
Head coach Cindy Bodmer was proud of the way the Salukis lineup played in the final round.
"We played well today with 10-20 mph winds making the course even a tougher challenge," she said. "We look forward to traveling to Hot Springs, Arkansas, to finish our fall season."Â
For SIU, they were led by junior Janie Samattiyadeekul who shot a 78-78-72 to finish in 5th place with a score of 228 (+12).Â
"The highlight of the tournament was Janie firing a final round 72 to post a top five finish. She went -1 on the last three holes in tough conditions," Bodmer said.
Also in the starting lineup for Southern Illinois was senior Ayanna Habeel, who finished tied for 14th place with a 236 (+20), senior Kylee Vaughan who finished tied for 18th place with a 241 (+25), freshman Ella Overstreet who finished tied for 23rd with a 244 (+28), and senior Secilia Ho who finished tied for 28th with a 247 (+31)
Competing as individuals were sophomore Morgan Gindler who finished tied for 23rd with a 244 (+28), junior Adriana Vinterova who finished tied foe 32nd with a 255 (+39) and senior Ryleigh Vaughn who finished 42nd with a 283 (+67).Â
 What's Next
Southern Illinois is back in action October 16-17 when they travel to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, for the Little Rock Golf Classic hosted Arkansas-Little Rock at Diamante Country Club.Â
