CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team will host the Northern Iowa Panthers on Friday night at 6 p.m. for the first game of a two-game weekend homestand. The Salukis (13-7, 8-2) are coming off a 79-55 victory over Indiana State on Wednesday.
Leading Southern in Wednesday's win was sophomore Quierra Love, who scored a career-high 24 points. Abby Brockmeyer notched a double-double in the contest, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 boards. Brockmeyer is currently 21 rebounds from reaching 1,000 in her career; just two players (Sue Faber and Dyana Pierre) have reached 1,000 rebounds in SIU women's basketball history.
The Salukis will be looking to avenge a Jan. 15 loss to the Panthers in Cedar Falls, Iowa. UNI won 66-57 after shooting 78.5% in the first quarter, however Southern outscored the Panthers 46-36 over the final three quarters. The Salukis were led in scoring by Gabby Walker with 20, while Brockmeyer added 16 and Makenzie Silvey scored 15 points.
Southern's 8-2 start to Missouri Valley Conference play is the program's best since the 2006-07 team that won the regular season conference title.
