CARBONDALE, Ill. — With just three games left in the regular season, Southern Illinois travels to Indiana State on Saturday for a noon Central game that will be televised on ESPN3.
With a win at Indiana State, combined with an Illinois State loss at Bradley on Saturday, SIU would clinch no worse than the No. 6 seed at Arch Madness. The Salukis (14-13, 7-8) could finish as high as the No. 4 seed, depending on the outcome of the remaining games.
In the first meeting between the schools on Jan. 5 in Carbondale, Southern Illinois used a 17-2 second-half run to pull away from the Sycamores (11-15, 4-10) for a 63-55 win. Trailing by five points with nine minutes remaining, the Salukis made 3-pointers on four-straight possessions — two each by Lance Jones and Steven Verplancken Jr.
