Besard Finishes Second at Craft Farms Intercollegiate, Salukis T-2nd

Led by senior Matthis Besard's second place finish, the Southern Illinois men's golf team tied for second place with Georgia State on Tuesday at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The Salukis fired rounds of 289, 289, and 287 to finish one over par with total score of 865. Southern Illinois led the 13-team field with 57 birdies on the weekend. University of South Alabama, the tournament host, took first place with a score of 842 (-22).Â
Besard was locked in, carding rounds of 67, 67, and 73 to take second place individually with a score of 207 (-9). Senior Tom Cleaton shot a 69 on the final day of play, his best round of the tournament, and picked up an eagle to finished tied for 17th at 218 (+2).
Freshman Braden Hoisington tied for 28th with a total score of 220 (+4), improving on each day of play. Graduate Birgir Magnusson was consistent throughout the event, shooting 74 each round for a score of 222 (+6) to tie for 36th. Senior Markus Wilhelmsen rounded out the Salukis score with a mark of 230 (+14), tied for 64th place.Â

The Salukis return home to tune-up for the Shark Invitational, hosted by Long Island University, on Monday, April 11th win Brookville, New York.
