Magnusson Wins 2022 Shark Invitational Individual Title, Salukis Finish Second

The Southern Illinois men's golf team closed out their last event of the 2021-22 season before the MVC Championship with a second place finish at the 2022 Shark Invitational. Graduate Birgir Magnusson played consistent golf for the Salukis, carding three rounds of 70 to finish first overall at 3-under-par (210). The individual title is the fifth tournament SIU has had an individual medalist during the season.Â
Freshman Braden Hoisington fired a 69 in the final round to finish tied for fourth place at 1-over-par (214). Senior Matthis Besard improved each round, shooting 74, 73, 70 for a total score of 217 (+4) to finish in eighth place. Senior Tom Cleaton shot 223 (+10) to take 22nd and senior Markus Wilhelmsen took 27th place to round out the Salukis score with a mark of 228 (+15).
What's Next
The Salukis return home to prepare for the MVC Championship on April 24, 2022 in Paducah, Kentucky at the Country Club of Paducah.
