Pointer named MVC Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Southern Illinois sophomore Iaunia Pointer has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Pointer was a two-time winner this past weekend at the Clark Wood Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville. On Friday night, Pointer won the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.44. That was a new personal best in the 200M and currently leads the MVC for the outdoor season. That is the third fastest time in SIU history.
On Saturday, Pointer continued her stellar weekend with a win in the women's 100 Meter Dash. She ran 11.66, a new personal best, in the prelims to be the top qualifier out of three heats. In the final she ran a 11.41 (w/3.1) to grab gold. That time also leads the Valley, and is just shy of the all-time record at SIU.
The Salukis are back in action on May 13-15, when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the MVC Outdoor Championships.
