The Salukis got going in the second half, with Mckensey Bunch deflecting a ball from Liz Brechtel into the back-of-the-net 52 minutes in to give Southern Illinois a 1-0 lead. With 10 minutes remaining in the match, Brechtel was involved again, and found the bottom corner to extend the Salukis' lead and secure the 2-0 victory.

Southern outshot Alabama A&M 9-8 overall, and 6-5 in terms of shots on target in the match.Â
The Salukis, now 1-2-0 overall, will look to keep the momentum riding into Sunday's home match vs. IPFW at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.Â
Thoughts from head coach Craig Roberts
"I'm delighted. We just continue to evolve the program, and the girls continue to make strides in the right direction. We've learned from the contests we've had, we've learned from the Mizzou game tremendously, and I felt tonight we showed a lot of character and self-belief."
