CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University will honor its seniors on Sunday as the Salukis take on Purdue Fort Wayne at 1 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.Â

- The Salukis are 1-2-0 overall after defeating Alabama A&M 2-0 on Thursday.Â
- Senior goalkeeper Maddy Alaluf put together another strong performance in the win, making five saves in earning the clean sheet. Alaluf's save on a Alabama A&M penalty in the first half kept the match knotted up at 0-0.
- Junior Mckensey Bunch opened the scoring in the second half, deflecting a ball from senior Liz Brechtel into the back-of-the-net. The goal was Bunch's first as a Saluki, and it gave the hosts a 1-0 lead. Brechtel would extend their lead with about 10 minutes remaining, ending the night with a one-goal, one-assist performance.
- The win was Southern Illinois' first of the season, and first under head coach Craig Roberts.Â
- Southern tallied its first clean sheet since Aug. 22, 2021, at North Alabama when the Salukis drew 0-0 after two overtimes.
- Tied with Bunch and Brechtel atop the goal-scoring leaderboard is senior Alyssa Fallon. Fallon scored her first goal of the season off of a Christy Murauskis assist at Missouri.
- The Salukis will honor 15 seniors on Sunday, including the following: Alaluf, Brechtel, Fallon, Murauskis, Sam DeJulio, Katy Quinn, Georgina Franco, Quinn Parks, Lara Barbieri Da Silva, Hailey Blanchard, Nicole Raventos, Emma Spotak, Kaitlin DuCharme, Paris Walsh, and Kate Held.Â
- 11 of the 15 seniors were on the inaugural team in 2019, with those being Alaluf, Brechtel, Fallon, DeJulio, Quinn, Franco, Blanchard, Raventos, Spotak, Murauskis, and DuCharme.
- DeJulio and Walsh have played a team-high 270 minutes through the opening set of matches.Â
- Junior Sam Dodd leads the team in shots, 8, and shots-on-goal, 5.Â
Head Coach Craig Roberts

Roberts is in his first season as Southern Illinois' head coach. For the last two seasons, Roberts served as the head coach at Grambling State, where he led the Tigers to a combined record of 17-9-5 and back-to-back trips to the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship match.Â

Prior to Grambling State, Roberts coached nine seasons at Ball State, totaling 99 wins to become the winningest coach in program history. Under his guidance, the Cardinals won four-consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division titles from 2015-2018 and claimed back-to-back MAC regular-season championships in 2015 and 2016. Â
- Roberts' first head coaching job was with UT Martin, which went from 2006-2009. In 2009, he and the Skyhawks won their first-ever Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship.Â
- The Mastodons are 2-1-2 after their opening five matches.
- IPFW is coming off of a 1-0 victory against Ball State on Thursday, Sept. 1. The Mastodons earned their first clean sheet of the season behind Samantha Castaneda's five-save performance.
- Kelsey Gallagher scored the game-winning goal in the 11th minute off of a Lizzie Haub assist. Gallagher is second on the team in goals with two on the year.
- Mackenzie Evans leads the Mastodons in goals with three in five matches played.Â
- In terms of assists, Rylee Vruggink leads the way with two on the year.
- Castaneda has started all five games for IPFW to begin the campaign, allowing just five goals and making 23 saves. The goalkeeper has a 1.01 GAA and 0.821 SV%.Â
- The Mastodons have out-scored their opponents 7-5 through the first five matches, averaging 1.40 goals per game.
- Jason Burr is IPFW's head coach, and is in his ninth year with the program.Â
- This will be the second meeting between the Salukis and Mastodons.Â
- The first match was a 1-1 draw on Sept. 6, 2019 in Indiana. Brechtel scored the Salukis' lone goal off of a Spotak assist.Â
- Southern Illinois will conclude its three-game homestand on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. vs. SIUE. The Salukis will then travel to SEMOÂ on Sunday, Sept. 11 in their final non-conference match of the regular season.
