Men's Cross Country Win Redhawks XC Invite

Women's Team Finish Third Overall
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO – The Southern Illinois men's cross country team won the Redhawks XC Invite, hosted by Southeast Missouri State. The women's team finished third overall and went #1 and #2 individually in the first event of the 2022 season. SIU junior Rachel Anderson placed first and teammate Josie Brown finished second in the first race of the season for the Salukis. On the men's side, Ethan Senti placed second in the men's 6000m with teammate Weston Jokerst coming in fourth. The Saluki women's team finished third out of eight teams, with a combined 78 points. Southeast Missouri placed first with 30 points while Missouri Baptist placed second with 77 points. The men's team came in first with 33 points.
"The men did their job today," said head cross country coach Brian Biekert. "It's always good to start the year with a win. It's time to get back to work and look forward to our next meet."
Ethan Senti was the best finisher for the men's side, with a second place finish of 18:20.2. Freshman Weston Jokerst came in fourth place with a time of 18:32.7. Dawson Smith (6th/18:43.7) and William Kaempfe(9th/18:58.1) rounded out the rest of the top ten in the men's race.
The women's team ran a 4000m with Anderson finishing first with a time of 13:50.4. Senior Josie Brown placed second with a time of 14:18.6. Four Salukis finished in the top 25 with Rachel Anderson (1st/13:50.4), Josie Brown (2nd/14:18.6), Ansley Bailey (21st/15:57.1), and Brianna Nieset (23rd/16:04.4).
"It was a solid starting spot for the women," said Biekert. "Rachel Anderson and Josie Brown ran like veterans today. We're in a place to build now."
