
Olivia Herron breaks records, but Missouri tops Salukis

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki Swimming & Diving program went on the road to face top-25 ranked Missouri this afternoon.
The Saluki men fell to the Tigers 190-99 and the women lost 199-88.
"It was a really good experience to stand up and compete with a great team like Mizzou," said Head Coach Geoff Hanson. "Our swimmers and divers learned that we can compete at a high level and that will definitely help us when it comes time to step up at the upcoming conference meets."Â
The top performing Saluki women was Olivia Herron. In the 200 Breaststroke she broke the Missouri Valley Conference Record with a time of 2:11.88. This beat the previous record of 2:12.43 that was set by Lauren Pavel of Missouri State on February 18, 2017. In the 400 IM Herron broke the Southern Illinois program record with a time of 4:19.41. Both of these times landed Olivia in second place at the meet.Â
On the men's side, the top performer was Ruard van Renen. He was victorious in the 100 Backstroke finishing with a time of 46.95. This was one of only two Saluki wins on the day.
The other win came in the men's 1-Meter Dive, where Lee Haywood claimed victory scoring 283.45 points.Â
Several Saluki women swimmers and divers had second place finishes.
This included Apryl Paquette who finished second in the 1000 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. She finished with time of 10:42.34 and 5:11.63. Jules Atkinson finished second in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 56.40. In the 1-Meter Dive Audrey Leno finished with 217.65 points to claim second place. Celia Pulido claimed two second place finishes of her own. Finishing second in the 100 and 200 Backstroke with times of 53.76 and 1:58.81.
Pulido was also a part of the second place 200 Freestyle Relay team that also consisted of Nour Eleish, Ali Robertson, and Lucia Romero. The team finished with a time of 1:35.49.Â
The men finished in second place in 7 events.Â
Ian Marshall finished with a time of 9:37.07 to get second place in the 1000 Freestyle. In the 200 Butterfly Gustav Persson finished second with the time of 2:06.87. Terry Yang finished in second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:39.46. Selim Hassan recorded a time of 4:02.91 in the 400 IM to finish in second. Donat Csuvarszki and Nicolas Lanuza claimed second in their individual races as well. Csuvasrszki's was in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 19.93. Lanuza tallied a time of 49.68 in the 100 Butterfly.Â
Csuvasrszki and Lanuza were also a part of the 200 Freestyle Relay team that finished in second place. The other two memebers of this team were Alex Santiago and Will Chavez. They finished with a time of 1:20.93.
This meet concluded the regular season for the Salukis. The next time they will be in action is the Conference Championship Meets.Â
"Our focus now turns to the MVC Women's Championship in just under three weeks, followed by the MAC Men's Championship in about five weeks. Overall we are happy with our 2022-32 regular season."
