
Salukis Top the Sycamores for Weekend Sweep at Davies

SIU got off to a hot start with 13 kills and a .478 hitting percentage in the first set followed by a .303 hitting percentage on 14 kills in the second frame as they took a commanding 2-0 lead. Freshman Ema Stermenska made an immediate impact in just her second collegiate start with an ace on her second serve of the night.Â
Stermenska also tallied her first career double-double as she finished with 27 assists and 10 digs to go along with a pair of aces.Â
After a 4-0 run from Indiana State tied the first set at 11-11, the Salukis went on a 7-0 run of their own with Nataly Garcia at the service line to regain the lead. Garcia led the Salukis with three aces on the night as she now totals 25 on the year, second-most on the team.
Garcia was also one of three Salukis in double-digit kills as she led the Salukis with 15 on the night followed by Annabelle Sulish (14) and Tatum Tornatta (13). Totaling 54 kills on the night, the Salukis hit for a .252 clip, just above the team's season average.Â
Trailing 19-24 in the fourth set, the Salukis rallied back to score five-straight points and tie the frame at 24 apiece before the Sycamores would bounce back and win their first set of the match.Â
Southern went on its longest scoring run of the match in the fourth set as they jumped out to a 17-10 lead after an 8-0 run. From there, the Salukis closed the door shut for their second consecutive win of the weekend.Â
Salukis are back in just two days as they travel to Missouri State on Monday for a 4pm match in Springfield.Â
