
Salukis Win in Four Sets at Indiana State

Terre Haute, Ind. - Southern Illinois began its four-match road stretch with a four-set win over Indiana State (23-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19) Friday night in Terre Haute. The Salukis got off to a slow start as they dropped the first set but would go on to take the next three, finishing with at least 14 kills in each of the last three sets.Â
Three different Salukis finished with double-digit kills as they were led by Tatum Tornatta who tied her season-high with 17 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Tornatta, a senior, has had consecutive matches with 14 or more kills while finishing with at least a .420 hitting percentage in both.
Fellow senior and outside hitter Nataly Garcia recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 15 kills and 14 digs. The third and final Saluki to finish in double-digit kills was Kelly Franklin who has now done so in back-to-back matches after putting down a career-high 15 kills against UIC.Â
Anna Jaworski led the match with 30 assists as she neared her season-high of 31 to go along with seven digs. Ema Stermenska had 13 digs, a career-high, along with 24 assists for her second double-double of her freshman season.Â
The Salukis finished with 11 aces led by Cecilia Bulmahn with four, who also tied her season-high in digs with 24. Annabelle Sulish and Emma Stermenska each recorded four aces on the night as well.
Tornatta also led Southern with six total blocks including two solo stops. The Salukis recorded 12 total blocks on the night, Imani Hartfield with five while Maggie Wallenberger and Nataly Garcia each had four.
