CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (1-8-4) will honor its seniors on Sunday when it hosts Indiana State at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex.

The Salukis enter Sunday's contest against Indiana State with a 1-8-4 overall record and 0-5-1 Missouri Valley Conference record.
SIU fell to Belmont, 1-0, in its last match on Thursday night. Goalkeeper Chantelle Symes made four saves in the match, while freshman Molly Tapak led the team with two shots-on-goal.
On Sunday, the Salukis will recognize their seniors ahead of the 1 p.m. kick-off. The seniors that will be honored are Emma Spotak, Mayra Helena de Lima, McKinley Stiff, Kaitlin DuCharme, Riley Maulick, Ashlyn Henrie, Mia Edwards, McKensey Bunch, and Sam Dodd.
Bunch is the team's leading scorer on the year with four goals. On her career, the senior now has five goals as a Saluki.
DuCharme has two goals and one assist this season, giving her career totals of six goals and three assists. DuCharme is third all-time behing Liz Brechtel (10) and Spotak (seven) in career goals at SIU.
Symes has made 11 starts in-goal for the Salukis, tallying 44 saves and allowing 15 goals in those 11 starts.
Freshman Veronica Gonzalez's 1155 minutes lead the team, followed by Tapak's 1134.

Head Coach Graeme Orr

Graeme Orr is in his first season as head coach of the women's soccer program. Assistant coaches Carley Kandel and Ash Phillips are also in their first year with the Salukis, while Jake Edwards returns for his second season as a graduate assistant on the coaching staff.
Orr comes to SIU after spending the previous 12 seasons as the head coach at Division II West Alabama. He was announced as the Salukis' head coach on May 30, 2023.
The Eaglesham, Scotland native, was the first head coach in West Alabama women's soccer history, starting the program in 2011. During his 12 years with the program, Orr posted an overall record of 115-78-19 and conference record of 79-44-9.
UWA recorded 10-consecutive and had 11-straight postseason appearances under Orr.
Orr was previously an assistant coach at North Alabama before arriving at West Alabama.

Looking at Indiana State

The Sycamores are 1-5-7 overall and 0-3-2 in conference play.
In its last match, Indiana State drew to UIC, 0-0, on Thursday night. Goalkeeper Maddie Alexander posted two saves in earning the shutout.
Indiana State is looking for its first win since defeating SIUE, 2-1, on Sept. 10.
Maddie Helling leads the team with two goals on the year.
Alexander has been the primary goalkeeper for the Sycamores, making 13 starts, 53 saves, and allowing 14 goals.
Indiana State's head coach is Paul Lawrence, who is in his first season in the role.

Series History

The Salukis are 1-2 all-time against Indiana State, with the lone win coming in Terre Haute last season.
SIU defeated the Sycamores, 1-0, on Oct. 6, 2022. Alumna Paris Walsh scored the game-winning goal.
This will be the second time the two programs have met in Carbondale, with the last meeting at SIU coming in 2021.
