CARBONDALE, Ill. — Three Saluki football players — safety PJ Jules, cornerback Mark Davis Jr., and safety Desman Hearns — were named to the Phil Steele FCS All-America team on Friday.
Jules, who was named to the first-team, picked up his second All-America award of the week, following on the heels of his Associated Press recognition on Tuesday. He was SIU's leading tackler last season with 109 stops.
A junior from Bradenton, Fla., Davis Jr. ranked among the nation's leaders in passes defended (10) and interceptions (3) during the 2023 season. He started all 12 games and was a key factor in SIU's top-5 nationally ranked defense.
Hearns, a Clearwater, Fla., native, played in all 12 games and made two starts last season. His strip sack and recovery at SEMO allowed Southern to go on its game-winning drive, and he also recorded a key interception in the win at Northern Illinois.
