Recap | Indoor Season Starts Strong With Saluki Fast Start

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's track and field program kicked off their indoor season on Saturday, hosting the Saluki Fast Start at SIU Recreation Center.Â

"The Saluki Fast start has returned since Covid canceled the last 2 years. I was pleased with the results and the energy provided by our team" said head coach Richard Jones. Â

The day got started with field events, key performances included Dyson Roye's second place finish in the pole vault. Dallas Hodge got the Salukis first victory in the men's shot put with a final mark of 13.61. Darius Fuller had the first place finish in men's triple jump with a final mark of 14.27.Jadon Robertson also had a first place finish in the men's high jump.  Â

Jadon Robertson had the first first place finish for the Salukis in the running events with an 8.16 mark in the 60 meter hurdles prelims and finals, on the women's side Iaunia Pointer had the first place finish in the women's 60 meter dash semi round and final round. Bryson Wilson finished first in the 400 meter dash and Iaunia Pointer once again was victorious this time in the 200 meter dash. Xavier Preston was also a winner in the 200 meter dash for the men's race. The Salukis ended the running events with second place finishes in both 4x400 meter relay. Â

"It's important to get a meet like this right before Christmas break. It puts a nice cap to the semester and training we have done all fall. Now we can look towards break and preparing for spring semester." Jones said.Â

The Salukis will compete next on Jan. 14 at the Badgers Midwest Invite in Chicago, Illinois.Â
