Relay teams highlight Day 2 at USF Bull Invite

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University track and field team wrapped up its first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday in Tampa, Fla., at the USF Bull Invite.
The men and women's 400 relay teams led the way for the Salukis on the second day of the competition. On the women's side, the group of Miracle Berry, Iaunia Pointer, Vashti Grey, and Dahja Price finished fourth with a total time of 45.67. The men's team of Lamark Threadgill, Xavier Preston, Christian Donatelli, and Kyle Burgoni were second in the men's 400 relay after posting a time 40.48.Â
Preston, Shane Ashton, Jeremiah Hamilton, and Bryson Wilson also finished fourth in the men's 1600 relay after putting up a time of 3:12.89.Â
Southern Illinois got off to a strong start on Saturday after Dawson Plab and Jadon Robertson both placed inside the top five in the men's high jump. Both Plab and Robertson tallied a mark of 2.05m, good enough for fourth and fifth place in the event.
Daniel Norris threw for a mark of 50.82m in the men's discus throw, which seated him in 10th out of 25 competitors.Â
Matisen Ingle and Christine Nosike earned top 10 finishes in the women's discus throw, with Ingle finishing sixth (47.51m) and Nosike finishing 10th (44.83m).
In the women's 1500 run, Claire Ayers posted a time of 4:33.73. Ayers was seventh in the event.Â
The Salukis had two top 10 finishers in the hurdles, with Price placing seventh in the women's 100 hurdles (13.81) and Jadon Robertson placing eighth in the men's 110 hurdles (14.75).Â
Pointer continued her strong weekend in the women's 400 dash, tallying a third-place finish after posting a time of 54.47.
"The teams did a great job this weekend," said Richard Jones, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. 'We stepped up today and ran as fast, if not faster, in some events. There were a lot of good takeaways from the field events as well so overall I'm pleased. We return back to Carbondale ready to get to work and continue building on this outdoor season."

Next up for the Salukis is a trip to Raleigh, N.C., for the Raleigh Relays from March 23-25.Â
