The Dawgs got on the board early as Tori Schullian hit a two-run home run down the left field line in her first at-bat of the game in the second inning. Coming off of the game-tying RBI-single on Sunday, Schullian has totaled three RBIs in her last two games.Â
Southern Illinois added to its lead in the third inning on a two-out double by Elizabeth Warwick that scored Jackie Lis following a walk and single by Rylie Hamilton. After the third inning however, the Redhawks were able to get a run back in the fourth on a solo home run to make it a 3-1 game. The Salukis offense slowed down throughout the middle innings of the game and a four-run sixth inning for SEMO gave the Redhawks a 6-3 lead.Â
Down to their final three outs and the top of the order due up, the Salukis four-run seventh inning to answer SEMO began with an Emma Austin walk. Following Austin's walk, Aubree DePron and Jackie Lis both singled to drive in the first run. Hamilton was able to move DePron from second to third on a fielder's choice that gave SEMOÂ the out at second. Elizabeth Warwick notched her second hit of the day while driving in another run and making it a 5-6 game. With one out and runners on first and second, freshman Anna Carder roped a line drive to the right center wall giving Warwick enough time to make it all the home from first and end the game 7-6 in SIU's favor.
Anna Carder, Aubree DePron, Rylie Hamilton, and Elizabeth Warwick each totaled two hits a piece along with three other Salukis notching one hit to tally 11 on the day.Â
Hannah Hockerman made the start for the Salukis as she threw five innings giving up just three hits and two runs. Elliott Stinson would pick up the win however due to the Salukis seventh inning rally to walk the game off.Â
Next up for SIU is a weekend MVC series with Indiana State beginning this Friday at 4 PM at Charlotte West Stadium. Saturday's game will begin at 2 PM followed by a noon first pitch on Sunday. The Sycamores are one of two teams that are still unbeaten in Valley play as they're currently 6-0 with an overall record of 17-12.
