Salukis Set For Weekend Series At UNI

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Southern Illinois Salukis are back on the road this weekend as they'll travel to Cedar Rapids for a three-game series with Northern Iowa beginning this Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 PM with game two starting approximately 30 minutes after the end of game one. Southern will look to bounce back after dropping three consecutive games for the first time this season. Despite the recent three-game skid, the Salukis still have the most overall wins in the Valley at 29-8 as they currently sit in fourth place with a 10-4 MVC record. The Panthers currently sit at the top of the Valley at 23-11 (12-1 MVC).

The Salukis lead the Valley with a .313 batting average and .397 on-base percentage both of which rank in the top-25 in the country.
After a 9-for-14 week with 12 RBIs, a grand slam, three doubles, three walks, and three stolen bases through four games, Elizabeth Warwick was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season.
Warwick currently leads the MVC with a .400 batting average and 36 RBIs - tied for first with UNI's Mya Dodge.
Along with Warwick at the top of the MVC are teammates Emma Austin, Aubree DePron, Rylie Hamilton, and Jackie Lis who all rank in the top-8 of the MVC in batting average. Lis still leads the conference with12 home runs and 83 total bases.

Series Rundown

The Salukis lead the all-time series over the Panthers at 79-44.
Northern Iowa has gotten the best of the Salukis recently however as they won all three games in 2022 as SIU has lost seven of the last 10 matchups.
With just one loss in the Valley, the Panthers are currently in first in the Valley with a 23-11 (12-1 MVC) record heading into the weekend.
UNI is one of just two Valley teams with a lower ERA than the Salukis at 2.44 led by Samantha Heyer who leads the conference with 15 wins while striking out 174 which ranks second in the MVC.
The two teams rank in the top-two of the conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and runs scored with the Salukis leading all categories but slugging percentage.
