Salukis Earn 30th Win Of The Season

The Braves got on the board in the top half of the first on a single to left field after the leadoff runner got on via error in the Saluki outfield. After the first inning however, the Braves were held scoreless until a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to make it a one-run game.Â
Madi Eberle made the start in the circle for the Salukis and threw a complete game allowing just three hits and two walks on the day while giving up just a single earned run. Eberle continues to add to her career-high 14 win season as the Salukis notched their 30th win in the 2023 season today.
Bailey Caylor drove in the tying run in the fourth inning of the game on a line drive single to shallow left field to bring in pinch runner Kerrigan Gamm. SIU was able to string a trio of singles together in the inning as Emma Austin and Anna Carder both singled prior to Caylor's.Â
With the game still tied at 1-1, Addi Baker came in to pinch hit and brought in the final two runs on a hard hit ball to the second basemen that made a diving stop but the ball got past the first baseman on the throw allowing Bailey Caylor and Emma Austin to both score.Â
Following Bradley's solo home run in the seventh, the Braves sent another hard hit ball to left field that got caught by Elizabeth Warwick as she was making her way towards the warning track and made a leaping effort to save a likely extra-base hit to put the tying runner on. Warwick's play got SIU the second out of the inning before the game ended in the next at-bat.
The Salukis got back into the win column after the first two games were also decided by one-run, just not in Southern's favor. Along with picking up its 30th win of the season, the Salukis improved to 18-2 at Charlotte West Stadium.
The Dawgs will hit the road for their final midweek game of the season this Wednesday to take on the Missouri State Bears at 1 PM.
