Salukis Fall 3-4 Despite Three Home Runs By Lis To Set Another Record

Springfield, MO. - Jackie Lis hit three home-runs to tie her own SIU single-game record as she now totals 15 on the year to set a new single-season record for the Salukis but it wasn't enough as the Dawgs came up just short by a final score of 3-4.

Each of SIU's last four games have been decided by a single-run as the Salukis are down to just six more games in the regular season. Despite the loss, Southern concludes its series with Missouri State with a series win after winning the first two games earlier in the season.

Lis hit her first home run in the top half of the first inning with two-outs to give SIU a 1-0 lead before adding to the lead in the third with another solo shot over the right center wall.

Madi Eberle made the start in the circle for the Salukis and despite allowing a base runner in each of the first three innings was able to end each of them with a strikeout to leave multiple Bears on base. However, a trio of hits from Missouri State in the third inning led to three runs being scored to give the Bears a 3-2 lead in the fourth.

Eberle was replaced by Hockerman in the fifth and held the Bears scoreless after Jackie Lis hit her record-breaking home run to set the SIU single-season record (15) once again to right center field. All three of Lis's home runs ended up in nearly the same spot as she showed off her opposite field power.

After going one full inning, Hockerman came out as Eberle stepped back into the circle in the sixth with two runners on and no outs. Missouri State was able to get the winning run across on an infield single that was put in an awkward spot for the Salukis and didn't allow them to make any play with a speedy runner on third. Eberle was able to minimize the damage however as she forced a hitter into a ground ball with the bases loaded allowing the Dawgs to turn an inning-ending double play as Rylie Hamilton threw home before Anna Carder turned and made the throw in time to get the runner at first.

Lis got her fourth and final at-bat in the seventh inning and drew a one-out walk before the Salukis would eventually go down with two runners on after Carder got on via error.

Southern Illinois returns home this Friday for their final home series of the season to host Murray State. The action will begin on Friday with Senior Day taking place Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. The series finale and the Saukis last home game of the regular season will begin at noon on Sunday.
